For years, we just took all the wires around our house for granted. Then one day in 2020 we decided to take a closer look.
We discovered there was a total of 13 wires cluttering the view around our home. Only 4 of them were even attached to our house.
We also found out that none of the 4 wires going up our shared driveway to our neighbors’ homes, were in use.
So, of the 13 wires cluttering the view around our house, only 4 were active and in use. Of those 2 were attached to our house (power and Internet), 1 was a power line to our neighbor to the south, and 1 was an Internet cable to the house on the north.
That is, a whopping 70% of the 13 wires were dead.
Those wires were just hanging there, looking ugly and not even being used. Among these wires was a phone line that had been dead for about 50 years!
I decided to remove all those excess wires. I cut down the 3 dead wires that ran in front of our living room windows and the 5 on the north side of our house outside our bedroom windows. Now we have only 2 wires attached to our house, not 4, and we removed 6 wires from the neighboring homes.
What a difference! The view of our house and from our house vastly improved.
Our views are now more peaceful, less chaotic.
And we didn’t stop there.
In addition to removing the 100 feet of extra cables attached to our home, we removed 2 old plastic service boxes and a few old hooks and insulators. Our house was built in 1908, so some of this hardware dated back 80 years.
Taking a closer look at the wires around our house was the inspiration for Wire Free Sky!
